Phoebe Brown’s review published on Letterboxd:
London Film Festival #17
This started out so strongly with some beautiful shots and interesting relationships, only for Esther to become one of the most irritating characters ever made. The director in the Q&A said she wanted to make something different from those coming of age movies directed by men, and yet her main female character makes the most idiotic and frustrating decisions? I can understand teenage infatuation but Esther is seriously stupid. The film then takes a sharp left turn into a nunnery where it spends way too much time and it’s pretty unclear what she actually learns from this experience. Overall a huge let down.
