wild that most men's take on this movie is that it's "titilating" or "perverted" when the whole plot is literally about what happens when men underestimate the validity of lesbians ... boys, you played yourselves! scammed! all of you owe me $200

  • The Fits

    The Fits

    ★★★½

not a particularly groundbreaking or inventive film about dance, but the BEST film about the bits in between - the waiting, the fidgeting, the marking, the goofing and the perfecting. also holy shit that shot of the FEET! and the pool! and the nail polish! I love cameras!

but, honestly, those observations are kinda perfunctory because primarily what the fits is most accomplished at is emphasizing, without cliché or melodrama, the immovable paradox of dancing (and of growing up): fit in, and stand out.

this was bigger and sadder than I expected but VIGGO MORTENSEN CALMLY SAYING "LET'S HAVE A DISCOURSE" WAS THE FUNNIEST WRITING IN ALL OF 2016 CÍNÉMÁ

I LOVE CARRIE FISHER SO MUCH.

I chose to write this on the force awakens intentionally. I'll always love the original trilogy because, to invoke the grand Carrie Fisher Tradition Of Speaking Bluntly, I'm not an idiot, but there will forever be a part of me brimming with adoration for her in this. here, she was just as vivacious and beautiful as she was 40 years earlier, and even more intelligent and vibrant. general organa was a gift and a reminder: there…

  • Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio

Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio

    ½

steven moffat never ceases to amaze me. for instance, in this he managed to put in everything i hate about his era of doctor who and combine it with everything i hate about marvel, as well as continue to write women like they're made of cardboard and completely ignore anything remotely to do with christmas, the literal reason this episode was made. a half star for the mention of this show's Saving Grace and apparent lone emotional anchor, river song, but otherwise this is dead to me and I'm going to watch the fish christmas episode eight hundred times instead.
