Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 2: Judgment Day ★★★★½

The masterpiece of the cinema du collateral damage, a genre that Arnold has dominated for decades now. It's interesting to look at Terminator 2 in the context of its release: the Cold War was coming to an end. There seems to be a genuine but tenuous hope that a former enemy could become an ally. While the fears expressed in the first film were clear (infiltration, annihation), the fears of this brave new world of the 90s were anything but; the first World Trade Center bombing wouldn't be for 2 years, 9/11 not for another 10. The idea of terrorism wasn't yet terrorizing to most people, which is reflected by the fact that our heroes are criminals, fighting police as much as they do T-1000 (itself disguised as a cop most of the time).
