Patrick Jensen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Rewatching Bong Joon-ho's Memories of Murder has definitely given me a greater appreciation of it. Where I was at first a bit emotionally distant from it, I could better immerse myself in it this time around. I had almost forgotten how great the tonal shifts between silly comedy and serious crime drama are handled by Joon-ho here, and both Song Kang-ho and Kim Sang-kyung both deliver amazing performances here as well. The cinematography by Kim Hyung-koo (who also worked on The Host, is absolutely amazing here, too, and it brilliantly emphasizes the atmosphere and the character dynamics throughout the film's entire runtime.
Memories of Murder is a film that might get even better on a third watching for me, and I hope it can become a 10/10 film for me in the future. Even if I still consider Parasite to be Bong Joon-ho's masterpiece.
