    Industrial surrealist nightmare.

I like to think of Tetsuo as foreshadowing a dystopian distant future of anti-transhumanism, in which a reversal of roles between human and technology is assumed — the latter acting as a dominating agent of chaos, as opposed to a vehicle for transcending our biological limitations.

Left me with more questions than answers but that's how I like it. The film is very slow paced and takes its time to build up mystery and suspense, before it culminates into a hazy ending that blurs the line between reality and imagination. Beautiful atmosphere and soundtrack too.

Hiroshima Mon Amour needs no introduction, being widely revered as one of the finest examples of French New Wave cinema. A very delicate piece of visual poetry, gracefully portrayed through thoughtful dialogue and interpersonal drama. I particularly enjoyed the juxtaposition between the horrors of war as displayed from a historical perspective in the context of WW2 and the amorous-psychological conflict between the two protagonists, both of which expose the frailty of the human psyche.

I don't think I've dived into a movie with such high expectations before, only to have them massively exceeded. Despite its intimidating runtime stretching just shy of 4 hours, the movie never overstayed its welcome and in fact had me so invested into the story and characters that I didn't want it to end. An exquisitely beautiful and twisted story of unfulfilled love, religious dogmatism, cult indoctrination and ultraviolence that made for the most riveting cinematic experience I've had in a very long time.
