The 90's version of a portal opening up in the sky to end humanity is two white guys throwing haymakers at each other exhaustedly on scaffolding.

This has aged well, all but the action, which I think was probably understood to be sup par even at the time. Great Thanksgiving childhood regression viewing.

Is this the best romcom ever? Why isn't this a way bigger deal?

When the elevator is closing on Sam and she says I want to get it right and he softens just 3% or whatever...amazing. So bold, smart, funny, and romantic. Sick NYC stuff everywhere. Never leans on high jinx.

Every scene manages a whip smart middle-way through. Instead of confronting the shoplifter, she re-shoplifts the book.

Best use of a U2 song ever. How'd they get the rights? Every scene opens with a surprising visual element. Wonderful characterization through small moments. Hardly any fat on any part of this. An amazing example of the effectiveness of practical stunts. Great craftsmanship all around. Beautiful gold colors

A story of a mad king from whom all power is derived. The structure leaves those beneath him indifferent to one another. That's what really hit me, the absolute consolidation of power and in such a mundane, recognisable setting. So the assistant is everyone who is not the king, and the women have it the worst.

Of course Tom from Succession is amazing. Such an effective use of NYC. It swallows her like a whale. That pre-dawn drive and that garbage food.
