    Jim Jarmusch was never a mainstream filmmaker yet there is something that makes his films very comfortable to watch. It is probably something to do with the relaxed pacing, the scruffy characters, the way he captures the more rough aspects of american landscape and of course the great ost.

    All these elements are present in this early flick from Jarmusch's filmography. A rough diamond of a movie that captures your attention despite the deliberate monotony that permeates its simple story.…

    Effective b-movie that combines western with horror. It actually takes its time with the build up but in the last hour provides the viewer with some memorable action and gore scenes without saturating our senses. The central premise relies on the old racist "white man versus uncivilized savages" theme a bit too much though. Overall entertaining enough to spend two mindless hours with it.

    To be honest I was expecting more considering the hype and the awards that accompanied this film. As an erotic tale is certainly adequate and the director incorporates cleverly some visual motifs to the film's themes such as the color blue or the food consumption.
