Grant’s review published on Letterboxd:
A wish fulfillment nightmare. Less a relatable coming-of-age narrative than three acts of vanishing plausibility- with an escalating series of deus ex machina, tangential ephemera, and hyper-caricatures.
A few of the absurdist jokes are actually pretty funny, but they aren't given adequate time to resonate, as they're swallowed in pure mania, so I can't say I'll remember them or much about this film in two weeks' time.
I have to imagine the screenwriting team set out to make a weirder and extreme riff on Superbad, as Beanie Feldstein indulges in the same unhinged antics her brother did 12 years ago. She just seems above this material, though, as Lady Bird has already proven.
