The Beatles: Get Back

The Beatles: Get Back ★★½

I’ll never get back those 7 hours and 45 minutes. It takes less time to watch all of The Irishman twice. It takes less time to drive from my home in the Twin Cities to Winnipeg, Canada. It takes less time to fully cook two consecutive turkeys on the longest Thanksgiving ever. Yet, it’s still less time than a full day of work, which is kind of ironic since it takes so much work to watch this.

There’s no such thing as a bad Beatles album (Yellow Submarine doesn’t count as an album in my book), but I always thought of Let it Be as kind of a lazy and sloppy record. Don’t get me wrong, I love The Beatles, but at this point in their crazy career they were pretentious dorks just throwing together shit for the sake of it. Them doing that is still better than like every other band, but it doesn’t necessarily excuse it. Luckily, they got their act together after the events of this film and made one of their greatest albums, Abbey Road. A documentary about them crafting those songs would be so much more interesting and entertaining. Putting this on is like hanging out in a Guitar Center all day, just watching stoners mess around on the guitar. Still, it is the Beatles and this does have its moments. Somebody needs to take those moments and do the opposite of a Snyder cut to this.
