1930 was the first true sound year. At least for the US (aprox 99% of the releases was sound) while Asia and Europe was still a few years behind. Ironic that my favorite film of the year was one of the last silent films (w/ soundtrack) released.
1930 wasn't exactly a quality year. Apart from the loved classics, most of the year was filled with AWKWARD SOUND FILMS since they were still adjusting to expressing themselves within the new media, with many oddly placed songs as each film seemed to have a song just thrown in there to take advantage of the new phenomenon.
Thankfully cartoons was starting to get good with Walt Disney's crew leading on and the Fleischer studios not far behind. But also here songs and music was dominant and would be for most of the 30s.
