Quinn Bailey’s review published on Letterboxd:
When I said two years ago in an almost painfully garbled review of this movie that this was the flip side of Mad Max: Fury Road, maybe I was on to more than I expected. In terms of pure narrative, this is one hell of a subversive act, an ostensibly traditional "is AI evil or good?" film that turns the focus onto the creators of the AI rather than the AI itself and in doing so transforms itself into an elegant and eloquent takedown of the way masculinity (especially masculinity in sci-fi) claims and reinterprets images of women and femininity to push its own dominant aims. Where Fury Road gets political, this gets cultural. The gorgeously simple visual design of the film, all reflections and frames within frames, doesn't hurt the final product either. Without a doubt still worth all of the hype it received.
