Possessor ★★★★

Between this and 2012's Antiviral, it's evident that Brandon Cronenberg is following in his father's footsteps in utilizing practical effects and body horror as a way of exploring the increasingly small connection between flesh and machine. However, it is really refreshing to see Brandon's more contemporary take on this dichotomy. While I do have my problems with Possessor, primarily in the way it tries to tackle far too much without entirely fleshing out a lot of the concepts presented, I enjoyed the film immensely as a whole. Between the cold and distant performances and the ghastly special effects and camera work, Possessor is a pretty incredible sophomore effort and very well may be my favorite of the few 2020 releases I've seen so far.
