Just like The Fog after a first viewing I have severely underrated Escape from New York. This my second watch, although I enjoyed it before; this time I had so much fun with it. The setting of New York as a prison which was already standout added further by one of Carpenters coolest characters sussing out the area full of outlandish criminals. The aesthetics are awesome and the film never fails to show them off at every opportunity.
This is a visionary film that is iconic for a reason. You can let go of all your worries and relax and have some escapist fun for the 90 or so minute duration.
