The Favourite ★★★★

Yorogs Lanthimos’ new film is a comedy like his last two, but is unalike in that it is earnestly attempting to be laugh out loud funny. It’s certainly not Step Brothers, but might be as close a facsimile of a mainstream comedy as we may get from him. (Then again, he’s already worked with John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell being in his next really isn’t a weird idea at this point.)

Power Rankings:
1) Rachel Weisz - Dear Rachel, to paraphrase Rilo Kiley, when you’re on, you’re really fucking on.
2) Olivia Colman - Rmember when she was in That Mitchell and Webb Look and Peep Show and now she’s going to have a fucking Oscar campaign?(!!!!!)
3) Nic Hoult- In his best performance since About a Boy.
4) Emma Stone -  didn’t work for me until I realized that she couldn’t be more perfect for the part. She sticks out the most in this cast but pay attention; that’s the point.
