Needs tighter editing.
I was just going to leave the prior sentence as my review, but figured I have a few more things to say.
So, this is the film everyone loves? What are you all on as you watch this? I bet it is good on drugs. Probably hallucinogens. Maybe pot. Definitely not speed or cocaine. So many scenes go on sooooo loooong.
2001: A Space Odyssey is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Seriously, wow. Just stunning.
I'm marking this as a re-watch even though I've never made it past the gorilla scene before, but we watched the HAL stuff in grad school, I don't remember why. Library science, a degree that doesn't have anything to do with film, but we did talk a lot about computers and even AI, so maybe that's why. It was nice to watch it on DVD so I could fast-forward through endless days of scenery. And gorillas.
Really there seemed to be two unrelated movies: one with the obelisk and one with HAL. They really had nothing to do with each other. Oh, and a third with gorillas!
What the heck was up with the end? Kubrick should have ended the movie when HAL went down, that would have been a great ending.
