Indy: "I don't know. I'm making this up as I go."

Golden idols in the darkest corner of South America. Burning down the house in Nepal. Traitorous monkeys in Cairo. Really tall Nazis coming out of tents ready to fight. The ability to find an escape from even the deepest underground cavern. Dispatching a truckload of Nazi soldiers singlehandedly. Face melting and head explosions.

    This.

There is also a perverse giddiness watching Spielberg burn a hole in a Nazi symbol…

Well, I know I teased a review of The Arena in my last review, and I still plan to unleash it upon you, but something caught my eye along the way. I read someone's review for Cobra, realized that I held Cobra among my favorites list in my profile, and yet *gasp*....I did not have a review for it. Heaven's to Betsy! Think of my credibility!! So let's take a sidetrip before I sit and watch half-naked female gladiators throw…

    Halloween II

    ★★★

Watched as part of my own Spooktober 2021 list.

Picks up right where the first one leaves off, with Dr. Loomis running outside to find that Michael Myers isn't dead, and Loomis ain't leaving until he puts an end to Michael. Laurie is carted off to the hospital, Sheriff Brackett finds out his daughter, Annie, was one of Michael's victims and poor young Ben Tramer is both hit by a car and burns up in an explosion. So even if…

Charley Brewster is horrified to learn that his new neighbor is a vampire, responsible for the disappearance of a couple of local women. Part Rear Window, part Dracula, writer/director Tom Holland has crafted a horror with enough black humor to lighten the mood. This is a serious vampire flick, though, make no mistake. It ranks amongst the best in terms of vampire films in a contemporary setting.

    We can tell this…

Much like Keith Gordon's character, Arnie, in Christine, my first car was also a Plymouth. A Plymouth Reliant. Not a classic, by any stretch of the imagination. It was the first car I ever got lost in, the first time I drove it out of town. You ever been to a strange town, and not ever find the way out? It's like a constant loop of "I already passed this convenience…

    Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

    ★★

Watched as part of my own Spooktober 2021 list.

Surprisingly, I don't have any nostalgic ground for Elvira. Her show didn't air in my part of the world and so I wasn't exposed to her at a young, impressionable age. I don't even think the local video stores carried this movie! So this was a first time watch for me.

Elvira inherits an old mansion, a poodle and a "recipe book" from her late great aunt, and it's smack in…
