I mean, it was better than X-Men : Apocalypse, i guess.

This is Blumhouse makes an X movie. Boring, bland, stale, thinks it’s scary when it’s blatantly not, generic. There’s no stakes here, no tension. They were definitely going for a horror film vibe, but when you know that your cast is a super team that they wanted to franchise out, you know no one’s getting killed.

And then what? The Russian girl is just gonna make a nonstop string…

    This was great.
When people talk about “woke” films, and films with a modern social commentary, this is what i would point to.
This film has a message to convey about women in abusive relationships and how the trauma can haunt them afterwards. It’s actually really powerful, but it’s never overly obvious. The subtext is just that...sub.
Solid performances, nice character work, just all around good stuff.

If i were rating the film based on story alone, it’d probably be a 2 and half star rating, but it jumps a whole star upwards due to the gorgeous cinematography, visuals, and atmosphere of dread.
This movie looks great. I can’t say that enough. I would watch it again just to soak in the stylistic artistry, but unfortunately it’s held back by a pretty ho hum story line that we’ve kinda seen before. I know that complaining about the…

Good movie that i just wanted more from. Great concept. Decent execution, but never really rises above the level of a decent time killer of a movie.
The conceit of an entire movie of characters telling each other scary stories in a cabin works really well and it’s actually pretty easy to forget you’re just watching three people talk to each other for an hour and a half, but ultimately it’s crippled by 2 performances that i felt didn’t quite land, and a third act that didn’t know what to do with itself.
