Loving Vincent

Loving Vincent ★★★

Loving Vincent is an interesting experiment that unfortunately does not equate to a great film. The fact that every frame of the film is an oil-painting is a great feat that occasionally provides beautiful visuals, but it also gives the animation an uncanny feeling. Static objects morph within the frame while character movements are slightly jerky, making them seem distinctly "other". And for a film whose greatest strength is the beautifully animated landscapes and swirling transitions, the fact that the majority of the film consists of talking heads is a disappointment. Loving Vincent is a unique curio in the history of film, but will never be anything more.
