Boomerang is a black romantic comedy triumph. It's the kind of film that you almost never see in theaters anymore, and that's a shame. The cast is stacked: Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens, Halle Berry, Eartha Kitt, David Allen Grier, Martin Lawrence and the incredible Grace Jones all bring their a-game. The best thing about Boomerang is that feels like a complete thought. It's not just a collection of archetypes going through wacky hi-jinks and set-pieces. Every character makes sense. Everything has a purpose. Every action leads to consequences. And we can actually see how the characters have grown by the end of the film. The make of a good romcom isn't just that the lovers get together--it's when you can feel that something has changed. Boomerang gives you that feeling.
