The Empire Strikes Back is easily the best Star Wars film to me it feels better made than the others whilst keeping the character interactions plentiful and enjoyful; not to mention the climactic confrontation is so beautifully executed and tense that it feels like such a powerful moment to end the film on without trying to conclude the story. It fills the role of a second film in a trilogy perfectly as it continues on from and develops the characters…

This feels so ambitious for its time in terms of story telling and world building. It definitely looks dated in places due to the incorporation of CGI in places which makes certain scenes look quite fake; most notably the garbage crusher scene. However all these elements don't bother me when viewing due to the campy nature of it; I can easily understand why some people find the original Star Wars trilogy cheesy and hard to take seriously but for me it just works and I think A New Hope is just a timeless classic I don't think I will ever forget.

Much better than I remembered. If I'm honest it definitely only scrapes a 6/10 as it doesn't really exell at anything, its just pretty average around the board; apart from the world it sets up and builds on which is pretty excellent. Not much else to say about it; pretty average film that just faithfully adapts the source material and doesn't really do much wrong. If the cinematography and effects were better along with some improved acting and a more…

Part of my Studio Ghibli Ranked

This was another beautiful film from Studio Ghibli which left me thinking about the relationship between humans and nature; which is very common from Studio Ghibli. This felt very comparable to my favourite film from Ghibli "Princess Mononoke" and for me both perform on a very similar level just in different ways however "Nausicaä" felt like it was missing something. I noticed this mostly during some of…

Part of my January 2021 Scavenger Hunt

A beautiful movie that really shines on multiple levels. The cinematography is very taught throughout and contains some very memorable shots, the characters are very interesting and believable; plus the accompanying soundtrack compliments the movie very well and helps set the tone of the street life of 1990s France. The dialogue is very well written as it combines realistic simple sections between the characters whilst occasionally interweaving some very thought-provoking exchanges between characters…

The first 10 - 15 minutes of this film are really disappointing and made me question leaving early and understood why many others had. I decided to stick with it and was eventually greeted with the film that I was expecting it to be.

The opening of the film is full of grating un-explained laughing from Joaquin and editing based comedy. The reveal/ explanation of his laughing condition was so poorly done it made me angry when watching it. We…
