Oppression, sexual abuse or abuse in general is a common occurrence in the lives of women. Imagine the same experience if you're living in poverty ridden slum streets of a struggling country like Philippines (not meant to disrespect the country, my country is the worst when it comes to poverty and women safety) which was then under Martial law.
This movie is a claustrophobic narrative about revenge. Yes. But the underlying building blocks, show how life is, living in such a difficult place.
This is a difficult watch, but as long as it educates men and abusive mothers. There's a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm in no position to give my opinion on how to live such a life. I apologise if I hurt any sentiment. Men are evil.
