Villeneuve did an excellent job of translating a rich, complicated lore into a plot that is possible to follow without so many dumb Marvel-esque quips. Stacked cast and looked and sounded great in IMAX. It’s long but it had a lot to get through so it didn’t feel like it dragged at all. Now I want to rewatch Lynch’s Dune because it’s been so long that all I remember about it is Sting.

    P.S. I would kiss the worm !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Green Knight

    The Green Knight

    ★★★★

Great acting, beautiful to look at (cinematography-wise and Dev Patel-wise) but ultimately a bit forgettable? I enjoyed the ride it took me on but I think I was expecting more from it. Very A24, which can be hit or miss for me. Still, a good watch and I definitely understand the hype it’s getting.

  • Bo Burnham: Inside

    Bo Burnham: Inside

    ★★★★

Bo toes the line of the self-referential, self-deprecatory, meta-for-meta’s-sake “uh yeah, THAT happened!” humor of early-Youtube millennials, but his musical and comic talents keep his content funny and interesting, and I can’t help but be entertained. During the show I had to google his height and if he had a girlfriend for scientific reasons

  • Mystic River

The movie absolutely does the book justice, but I wouldn’t expect any less from Clint Eastwood. Great acting from Penn, Robbins, Bacon, Fishburne, Harden, and Linney. Cool small role for Eli Wallach. And it’s a Boston movie so they sprinkled in a Wahlberg brother for funsies. The Boston accents are sorta laughable but so are real Boston accents so it works.

  • Ocean's Eight

    Ocean's Eight

    ★★★★

Very fun. So funny that the lore is that Danny Ocean died and there’s just a picture of the “late” George Clooney smiling on Sandra Bullock’s desk. Also glad to see cameos from some of the original 11 (well, Soderbergh’s original 11). STACKED cast too!

I just finished reading Eric Idle’s autobiography so this was great timing. Haven’t seen this one in years; I forgot how many early SNL people and actual rockstars are in it. Apparently all the Beatles really liked the movie. Even Yoko, who is literally portrayed as Hitler, was a fan. That’s how you know it’s good stuff!
