In part this kind of sobering tale of fuck boi whose destructiveness catches up with him but the gall and ostentation of its all make it very funny. When his declaration of love for Ben Whishaw is rejected and he then cycles over Paris to say the same thing to Adèle Exarchopoulos - you have to laugh! All three of leads are really at the top of their game.

Such a beautiful film! Setosuko Hara does an absolute turn. The social conventions and relations at play are alien but the way in which the father and daughter navigate each other, communicate, fail to communicate, express regret, fear for the future - it’s all so poised and intelligent.
