"Guys like us don't change, Saul- we stay sharp, we get sloppy, but we don't change."
"Como lo sabia, como lo sabia!"
Oh, how Penelope Cruz knew. Penelope Cruz is so authentic, emotional, and Spanish in this entire film, and it's Cruz who makes this movie memorable. It should be no surprise that Cruz won her only Oscar as Maria Elena because her chemistry with Bardem, her raw emotion, makes for one of the best supporting actor performances of the 2000's. A glass of red wine, a Friday night, and this movie is a recipe for a great time.
It's extremely difficult to find a child actor who can hold down every scene in an adult movie- but Jojo Rabbit goes above and beyond in that regard. A special performance from Roman Griffin Davis, it's my hope this is the start of a special career. What Taika Waititi does here is both impressive & rare- creating a movie with no rules, where anything goes, taking the audience across the full spectrum from joy to sadness and back to joy again. Jojo Rabbit is a special movie.
Movies can change a person's life. Characters, figures, superheroes, can change a person's life. We all must reevaluate Chadwick Boseman's entire career. He took roles and played characters based on the fact that he knew his time was limited. And god damn it he made every movie count. There are going to be kids who watch Black Panther- regardless of color- and will be inspired by this movie. I am inspired by this movie. It was and always will be an honor to have witnessed Chadwick Boseman's god given talent.
