Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion ★★★★★

“I don’t want to die.”

Maybe one day, I can say that truthfully. This film has given me hope that one day I might be able to. A property primed for escapism functioning as a rejection of it; happiness as a fatalistic eventuality — for someone like myself, who sometimes puts too much stock in movies and their power to heal, it was important that I saw this. Dream worlds are fun, oftentimes essential in their contrast to reality, but I need to come back. If I try hard enough, anywhere can be paradise.
