The Trial of the Chicago 7

The Trial of the Chicago 7 ★★★

A courtroom drama is probably the best place to let Sorkin’s trademark rapid-fire dialogue and slightly self-indulgent monologues shine.  And yet, while this decade long passion project of his covers a frustrating yet fascinating trial that is fairly obvious in its relevancy in today’s society, the film is not nearly as captivating or empowering as it might have been in the hands of another director.  Great performances on display here, ultimately let down by a lackluster plot and a corny, cliche ridden ending sequence.
