Exactly my sense of humour which is to say that it’s completely stupid and ridiculous

So much fun ! Female friendship, colourful musical numbers, songs about men being worth less than diamonds. We love to see it !

This is the kind of film I wish I saw when I was younger. Really heartfelt and a beautiful ode to growing up and friendship.

  • Nomadland

I’m so glad I got to see this in the cinema. The magic hour landscapes were so mesmerising and the entire film was full of beauty. It’s a film about people and about the nature of the human spirit reaching across both loneliness and a sense of togetherness. It’s lighthearted and heartbreaking at the same time. It really tugged at my heartstrings and it was the perfect first visit back to the cinema.

A really vibrant preservation of such a rich point in the history of drag culture. Heartbreaking at times but also really beautiful and full of humanity.

This was wonderfully delicate and beautiful. A really gentle approach to relationships and empathy, but it’s done in a way that tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. Overall just a really charming and heartwarming film.

  • Fish Story

I had a lot of fun watching this. This was bizarre and at times ridiculous, but also really uplifting. I could have watched an entire film that was focused around the band in the studio, their charisma and energy was brilliant. Nonetheless the portmanteau approach to each individual character and storyline was a really lively way to weave the impact of the song into the narrative. Also the song itself is great.

  • The Secret World of Arrietty

    The Secret World of Arrietty

    ★★★★½

    Japanuary 8/31

This is a really heartwarming story of kindness and acceptance. This has swiftly become my second favourite Ghibli film after Kiki’s Delivery Service. The score is absolutely beautiful throughout. Some really lovely landscapes and beautiful animation, all of the flowers and foliage is stunning. I could stare at their house and all of its found decorations for hours.

I simply just want to be Arrietty in her bedroom full of plants.

“Our memories, they have to be passed down by those who knew us in life – in the stories they tell about us.”

Everything about this film from the visuals to the music to the story is just all so incredibly beautiful.
