Dazed and Confused ★★★★★

Linklater doesn't celebrate, doesn't condemn, and never condescends. And twenty years on, Linklater's most significant gift as a director has become clear: his modesty. It's still so tempting to credit the impeccably cast ensemble for the film's classic status - more than Linklater's script or direction. Dear Future: do not forget Richard Linklater. He's one of the best we've got.

It's been at least ten years, so it was interesting to find myself watching this not as a peer of the characters, but as their slightly/mostly disapproving uncle. Lame.

Then again, as far as relating to characters goes, I was disappointed to realize that I am still, at 39, more Mitch Kramer than Randall Pink Floyd. Lamer.

Lamest? Wiley Wiggins, of course. But to be honest: it's a brave performance. Because that is exactly was 15 looks like. We just don't like to be confronted with that fact.
