Scarlett Worthington’s review published on Letterboxd:
Such an odd but amazing viewing experience. This is my first Yorgos Lanthimos film and I’m definitely going to look at more of his filmography now. With period, comic, peculiar and heartbreaking aspects this film is a sensational blend that is able to create a full bodied piece of cinema that leaves you encapsulated throughout. The camera work is just a catalyst to this with the cinematography giving me major Barry Lyndon vibes meaning it was bloody gorgeous.
I also fell in love with the three lead characters. Mainly because my little heart was overjoyed to see three amazing actresses lead such a critically acclaimed film and partly because the characters them self were so flawed and complex which similarly is rarely found for female roles. When I wasn’t completely drawn in by these interesting characters I was marvelling at how great it was for such roles to exist. Going off from that, the script was on point in it being hilarious and honest. The Favourite definitely lives up to the hype for me.
