Baby Blood

Baby Blood ★★★★½

I don't see it mentioned in any of the reviews I've read on here, but so much of this reminds me of prime-era Jean Rollin -- a sort of urban fantastique, opening at a traveling circus before turning the film's entire world into one. Yeah, you can read this as being about the male fear of pregnancy, but I almost see it as having a sly feminist slant, with Yanka's freak pregnancy empowering her to finally stand up to the abusers and harassers that constantly bombard her in her day-to-day life. The episodic structure is maybe a little wonky, but I loved pretty much everything about this -- especially the fashion!
