ScreeningNotes’s review published on Letterboxd:
John Carpenter and Kurt Russell commentary track.
As usual, the duo is consistently entertaining to listen to, and together they provide extensive insight into the behind-the-scenes making of the film.
Most interesting to me:
- Carpenter talks extensively about cinematography legend Dean Cundey and how his lighting setups were incredibly elaborate in order to make the low-light environments visible on film stock (assisted by a new wide angle lens which allowed for greater depth of focus).
- Russell talks a lot about his amazing stunt double, Dick Warlock, and explains the Texas Switch, where an actor and a stunt double will trade places during a shot by hiding behind a piece of the set or briefly disappearing off-camera.
Highly recommended for fans of the film. I've got it on the gorgeous Scream Factory blu-ray, but it's an old track and can be found on various other discs.
