Like so many of his films, this one was bumped a full star on grace of Hanks’ performance alone.
I’ve witnessed the worst film in competition by miles, and its name is MEKTOUB. Like Louis CK’s leaked standup, Kechiche takes every valid complaint lobbed at BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR and quadruples down, this time without so much as a pretense of theme. Contemptible, male gazing garbage. Some 75% of the audience walked out during the premiere; those that stayed, I imagine, only did so out of morbid curiosity.
