Well I finally saw it. This is a great movie. Bill Murry is excellent and the rest of the cast is great too. The script is great and so is the directing. The comedy is spot on as well. There's a reason that this is a classic. However one problem I do have is this. They never explain what did this to him. Why he keeps living the same day over and over. Is it God? Is it fate? What is it? Also there is never a scene where Phil tries to figure out why this is happening or what is making this happen. There is an episode of Supernatural where they did something similar. In that episode Sam and Dean are investigating a supposed cursed house. Kind of a fun house that people actually disappear in. In the episode Dean, the older brother, keeps dying and Sam has to keep reliving it and trying to save his brother. In that episode they also are trying to figure it out at the same time. In the end it turns out to be a creature called a trickster. Now Groundhog Day is not the same thing as Supernatural, there aren't a bunch of weird creatures walking around. However something has to be making this happen for a reason. Even if it isn't full explained or is a made up explanation I could go with it. In Back to the Future the time machine works because of the Flux Capacitor. It's not explained any further then that and it doesn't need to be. Besides that the rest of the movie is great and it is still good enough to warrant 5 stars. Absolutely worth a watch.
