I love zombie movies a lot but this one was dreary and dissatisfying. Despite having a two hour plus running time, the extensive length never felt justified. I didn’t particularly care about which characters lived or died. Frankly they could have all died at the end and I would still feel the same way about this movie as I do now. I think Snyder may have gotten the impression that if the gore effects and makeup are good enough that everything else doesn’t have to be refined, and I get that rationale for sure. It’s just that everything else is so unfocused and unoriginal that the end result feels watered down. The film isn’t without its entertaining moments, but in the end it doesn’t advance the zombie sub-genre much.
