Shawn Ko’s review published on Letterboxd:
After barely getting through Snyder’s Justice League, the same can be said with his newest zombie flick. Peaking early with an incredible opening montage sequence, everything that happens afterward seems to drag on for what seems like forever and doesn’t connect in any satisfying ways. The problems that lie in Snyder’s DC endeavors are seemingly present in Army of the Dead, and it lacks any coherence regarding its tones, purpose, and overall aesthetics to make it a piece of art as Snyder intends. Furthermore, Snyder’s continued attempts to drag out his stories to outrageous runtimes don’t justify the need to do so and ultimately make for tedious and meaningless experiences. Very few films have warranted a runtime over two hours, and if this review can serve as anything, I hope that it acts as my PSA that more movies NEED to be under two hours.
