I get that everyone's expectations were high, but SWEET MOTHER OF CINEMA... Jesus, Marty.
Wasn't ready for that kind of baggage. Not ready for a cute little write-up yet either. Oh, how groundbreaking was Pacino. Netflix earns a ticket through the gates of movie heaven. My recent fallouts with gangster cinema, and perhaps Hollywood's too, have always come from some absence of primal vulnerability at the top of the food chain, that our stories gobble their way up to. De Niro's Frank 'Irish' is curiously heartbreaking...partly because he's frightened to look behind. Scorsese may have just transcended his own element.
