Most moviegoers don't see that many movies like Hunted, but if you go to genre festivals or spend a lot of time digging through your favorite streaming services to find the new selections, it gets categorized: Survival horror, nature, woman on the run, etc. What makes one of those stand out? A couple good performances. Some visual style. And a willingness to go kind of crazy at the point where the audience might be expecting the filmmakers to coast.
Ready for a deeply disturbing twist on Red Riding Hood? Then, you won’t want to miss Vincent Paronnaud’s Hunted.
This haunting offering begins at the side of a campfire, the crackles of the wood and the orange light flickering on the face of a young boy as his mother tells a fairy tale of suffering, attempted murder, and survival. She concludes with a warning: “The company of wolves is better than that of men.”
this has been on my radar since last summer and i was stoked when it finally dropped on shudder, so my expectations were already a little higher than usual but god damn i was not expecting this. it’s like you’re next meets new french extremity. one of the more unhinged things i’ve seen recently,,,,, current political events not included.
+ i have a hard time with a lot of “female revenge movies” that take a a character from meek…
I wasn't expecting how hilariously bonkers it got in the last half hour or so. It was incredible! Lots of interesting sub-text in both its lead and psychopathic villain too. Some war PTSD, LGBT themes, differing ways of being brought up, all coming back to the wolf/cub dynamic in new and engaging ways. Incredible well done film.
I cannot believe how many negative comments there are for this film. This is an absolute treasure to come out of the last decade. In love with the hardcore Red Riding Hood meets I Spit on Your Grave. All actors in the film are perfectly cast and deliver. The gore is well done. This film is amazing, especially for being a Shudder original. And the dog is the cutest🖤
Very clever and genuinely disturbing. More in a review tomorrow.
For those with a love for 'The Exorcist', but haven't read up on much of the behind-the-scenes details, this documentary will provide great stories and fascinating moments from the man who put it all together. But 'Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist' isn't just an analysis of Friedkin's finest work, or an uncovering of his influences and processes. It's a fascinating, no smoke and mirrors insight, honest portrait that allows a legendary director to not only explain his magnum opus, but who he is as an artist and as a man.
