Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Portrait of a Lady on Fire ★★★★½

A luscious, every frame a painting movie which simmers and then boils as its tender love story plays out. The cast, mostly unknown outside of French cinema, are marvellous throughout.

Standout for me was the interior cinematography – reminiscent of the candlelit scenes in Wolf Hall.

This was already on most people’s top films list last year so I’m late to the party and won’t go on other than to say this is well worth seeking out if you haven’t caught up with it yet.
