Cliff’s review published on Letterboxd:
Having seen this probably 10 times or more, obviously the shock value is diminished for me a bit. But I'm increasingly impressed by how dedicated it is to shock value, and the fact that it's a film of two halves really helps that.
The first half is an extremely violent jungle adventure. Then the second half really pushes the boat out with 45 minutes of virtually nothing but horrific atrocities, one straight after the other.
It's a very clever way of pacing a film, and you've got to love the little epilogue with the viewers in the screening room exhaling with relief, and Professor Monroe wondering that terrible, pat final line to himself. What an awfully lame way to close such a horrifying litany of carnage! I love it.
