This is the first Steven Spielberg movie I’ve liked since freakin War of the Worlds (I have not seen Munich). To put that into perspective WOTW came out 13 years ago. I have not liked a Spielberg movie in 13 freakin years...(Bridge of Spies was pretty decent)
SPIELBERG IS BACK BABY! Ready Player One reminded my why he is considered one of the best directors of all time. This movie is just a super fun action adventure movie. The plot is very simple. It's just one of those movies where you sit back and enjoy the ride. The virtual reality world is so fucking awesome. It's Visually astounding and cool as hell.
The book and the movie are actually pretty significantly different. I loved the book btw.
This movie is basically a nerd's wet dream. Aka my dream.
The Shining sequence is literally the best thing ever. I was absolutely giddy during the entire sequence. Seriously, if I were to compile a top 20 of my favorite movie scenes of all time; this one would probably be in there.
There are so many moments that I absolutely LOVED. Look ya'll I'm not an 80s kid, but I freakin 80s. If I could have chosen what era I would have grown up in, it would have absolutely been the 80s. So all the references really worked for me. Plus it's not just all 80s references, there's also a lot of current stuff as well.
Ready Player One is a classic Spielberg action adventure movie. Fuck, I missed this type of Steven Spielberg film so much. It feels REALLY good to enjoy one of his films again. The likes of his recent films just didn't do it for me, but RPO certainly did! I'm a huge fan of video games and pop culture, so this movie was right up my alley.
