The Kreutzer Sonata

The Kreutzer Sonata ★★½

The "Rohmer playing with his buddies from Cahiers du Cinéma" atmosphere does not fit the gravity of the story, in which Rohmer himself plays a man who kills his wife. Shooting on 16mm without sync sound led Rohmer to deliver a voice-over of the whole story, but while we get to hear his character's thoughts in great detail, his wife barely exists. A stepping stone towards the "Moral Tales" series, but he still had a long way to go.
