When I first saw 2001 I expected to instantly love it but when I finished it for the first time I found it to be amazingly directed but very boring. A couple of months later I tried watching it again only to feel the same effect of watching it for the first time, well directed, but boring. months later I watched it for the third time and I finally realized why this movie was so spectacular and why it was a masterpiece. The shots in space accompanied with the score left my mouth sunk open in awe. The dialogue of the film doesn’t treat the audience like idiots by repeating different plot points several times to make sure you got it. The symmetry of most of the shots doesn’t get dull like I expected it to after the few first times but I found it amazing throughout the entire runtime. Along with the beautifully shot film with equally great accompanying music the metaphors of the film can be interpreted in different ways by the audience. 2001 is a masterpiece.
