Stephen Mortland’s review published on Letterboxd:
About halfway through I was ready to shit on this for being a sort of bleak, lifeless rip on eXistenZ which doesn’t capitalize on the ideas it employs (which it is). But in the end, Possessor came through with enough unique and affecting horror imagery that I didn’t really care.
Extremely into all of the Brakhage inspired montage sequences. Very impressed with Cronenberg’s ability to graft the experimental and arthouse onto something so otherwise mainstream genre. Kind of boring and nothing I’ll revisit, but makes me think he’ll make some pretty neat stuff moving forward.
