This show was at its best when it was a small town character study and a metaphor for religious fanaticism/cultism, and at its worst when it was a blatant mouthpiece for Mike Flanagan’s thoughts that he didn’t have the restraint to keep out of the script. Thoughts that, to me, often read as nothing more than tumblr-esque dialogue that rambled on so long that the meaning got lost. And I like a good monologue as much as the next guy…
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. wow. This has been at the top of my watchlist for so long, and even with the highest expectations possible I was blown out of the water by First Reformed. It is equal parts haunting and thought provoking and Ethan Hawke delivers a quietly tragic and unsettling performance that is easily his best ever. How did he not even get nominated. Sorry to this man.
There are a lot of crisis of faith movies out there, but not a lot…
i am fucking speechless. I’m gonna probably delete this and come back to do a real review lol but I just wanted to broadcast to this godforsaken app that this movie is phenomenal, crying and shaking when i came out and this time that’s not a joke. It will not resonate to that degree with everyone obv but this is a masterful ass film and it is IMPORTANT and Jodie Comer is BRILLIANT and everyone sucks for not believing women. Go see it
I’m writing this walking home feeling a little giddy?! What is happening?! Have I been turned into a Halloween stan in the last day? Maybe a little😳 I hope long time fans will have me. and if you ever hear me calling Michael daddy, mind your business!
The person next to me in the theater said “this is literally a fan fic” and that’s the perfect way to describe this. Some of the stupidest wildest shit I’ve ever seen happens…
