There are worse movies, of course, but not a worse movie with this budget and level of talent on both sides of the camera. This movie makes Battlefield Earth look like The Matrix in comparison. Boring, simpering, cloying, self-satisfied, infused with a repellent sense of unearned gravitas and emotion. The entire interminable watch time I looked like I was sucking on a lemon given the sour look on my face, such was my revulsion. Make a couple more like this…

    The Tragedy of Macbeth

Macbeth: The Movie, and guess what, it fucking rules. Denzel is on fire, adeptly presenting Macbeth's lust for power and his weariness at having to defend his treacherously obtained crown with all the craft of a two time Oscar winner who should probably win a third. He understands that this is Macbeth the film character and imbues him with subtleties of acting not possible in a traditional stage performance. The sets, the cinematography, the supporting cast are all impeccable and neatly arranged in a fascinating tableaux. Macbeth in under two hours, you can't beat that efficiency!

For the first hour you'll wonder why you've never heard of such a good movie, but the last half hour will tell you why it's both not so good and largely forgotten. The first hour is so effective but will leave you wondering how they're going to land this plane, and the answer is it doesn't; it manages a controlled crash where the occupants escape with their lives, but the plane is a mangled mess.
