A slow burn of a movie but goddamn that heist scene was sexy.
Honestly, couldn’t make it through the entirety of this movie. I found it unbelievably hard to follow, perhaps because I had so little context about Bolivian history, or the war between Bolivia and Paraguay, or the different indigenous groups which made up the milita. Satire is really difficult when you understand so little about the object of the satire.
Also the subtitles were incomplete at times, and the lack of closeups was kind of distracting.
This was definitely a movie made by a human being! I feel like “unpolished” is overused, but this was definitely that. Boots Riley was evident in every aspect and it was honestly refreshing to see a movie so willing to defy convention and embrace the detours of its creator, even if those detours sometimes went on a hair too long.
