Tails Moon, novice Witch ⛤’s review published on Letterboxd:
Every so often, I get lulled into thinking, "Hey, you know what? I'm pretty damn good at this whole watching and understanding movies thing!" And then I have to watch something like an Andrei Tarkovsky film, and it basically seems to exist for the express purpose of asking me, "Have you considered the possibility that you actually completely fucking suck at doing those things and should give up and get a new hobby?"
I tried watching Solaris years ago and found it just completely impenetrable. I probably should've just given that one another pass instead of trying to sink my teeth into another of Tarkovsky's films, but here we are.
I don't really know what else to say. The sound design was great? The visuals were great? But I don't have anything remotely meaningful to say about them or any other technical aspect of the film because I'm just totally in the dark as to what any of it was in service to?
There are seemingly no reviews of this thing from anyone remotely reputable that aren't 4 or 5 stars, so I'm not going to pretend for even a second that this isn't entirely a me problem. I just don't really know what else to say. I'll try to go back to giving probably overly enthusiastic reviews to studio trash and pretending I have any fucking idea what I'm talking about now, I guess.
