Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049 ★★★★

It's very shiny. Roger Deakins deserves all the Oscars. It's interesting to see Harrison Ford essentially playing a damsel in distress, in a helpless, kidnappable, exploitable role that would have gone to the female love interest in any 1980s action movie. But I just don't see much reason for this movie to exist. It doesn't deepen the world for me, or expand the themes, or do much that I found unique or exciting. It's a fine science-fiction arthouse movie, lavishly and lovingly made. But I just couldn't emotionally engage with much about it.
