Ready Player One ★★★½

Goddamnit I forgot to log this 11 hours ago after I saw it.
But yeah imma say it's a good movie.

Most of it is pretty formulaic and cliched from a storytelling and plot perspective.
A lot of shit doesn't always make sense and it feels a little rushed to its digital fantasies that it leaves us with shallow characters drama and wandering narratives with some pretty groaning dialogue at times.
The characters are just written a certain, unspecial way without leaving much of an impression, but the spectacle is so refined and awe-inspiring.
There are a couple really genuine moments that absolutely define the term "movie magic".
Spielberg very rarely lets me down, and this is one of his gems.

It's like A.I. meets The Lego Movie, and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
I honestly don't care about the narrative shortcomings that much, and that's something I'll probably never say again, but this movie took me out of my boring, pathetic life for awhile and made me feel like a kid again.
I know the film is sort of against that 'escape the real world' vibe, but it's honestly kind of in the middle with its message and I felt both of them.
Either way, it was just amazing to experience something like this because most movies today lack that kind of magic and ability to transport its audiences.
