    Star Wars: The Last Jedi

A tale of legends and legacy. An ode to heroes etched in history, and the people who must confront their own renown.

The protege who fails to live up to his family--the girl with no past behind her, no future drawn before her--the faded failure who forsakes the face the world gave--the accidental savior who can't embrace the titles thrust on him--the cocky ace who won't accept his own shortcomings. The Last Jedi has five protagonists, each of them forced…

  • Cats

I won't mince words: Cats is one of the most uniquely entertaining movies I have seen in my entire life. It is impossible to rate on a scale of 1-10 because it defies that sort of level of subjective enjoyment.

The film was... well, I can't say well-crafted, but... The film was designed with a very specific creative vision in mind. And its director, its actors, its production designers, everyone worked tirelessly to fulfill that creative vision, and succeeded. That…

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

The best way to procrastinate on deadlines is to end up watching all six entries in the Auralnauts Jedi Party Saga, and that's exactly what I did on this Saturday evening.

    Boss Level

Joe Carnahan, the master of making pretty decent movies that are also sort of compromised in one way or another, delivers yet again with Boss Level. It has charm, fun, interesting characters and quirky villains. But it's also not particularly well-made (it feels like it got chopped up to hell in the editing room) and the emotional core is OK at best.

Mel Gibson gets some real nice evil monologues here and there, but he's a bit underused overall, and…

Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!

Since nobody else on here's seen it yet (it came out today), I get to make the comment first: Pokemon: I Choose You! is the End of Evangelion of the Pokemon series.

Okay, that's not quite accurate. It's still very much a kids' movie and doesn't feature heavy subtext or eye vaginas. It does get pretty weird though and features some psychological elements along with metafictional commentary that is a bit more than I'd expect from a Pokemon movie.

    On Her Majesty's Secret Service

    2017 Bond-A-Thon 6

Well, I was wrong about my comments on You Only Live Twice, because it tuns out THIS is the best Bond film so far. Discarding the extreme campiness of the previous few entries and going for a slightly more realistic and considerably more serious story, OHMSS is an action-packed thrill-ride that has actual emotional stakes for the first time in the series so far.

I said this about the previous two movies, but this one once again…
